Abstract

Environmental conservation is one of the main challenges of today’s society and is addressed in the agricultural sector from an agroecosystem perspective. These concepts, such as sustainability and sustainable development, are treated within intensive agriculture from a perspective that leads to water pollution, air poisoning, worker poisoning and loss of biodiversity. Given the above, this document seeks to give a new vision to the professions that impact agriculture and thus to the application of technology.
Sustainability refers to the ability to meet current needs without compromising those of future generations. Likewise, Sustainable Development, in the Colombian context, centers its bases on Family Farming, in which farmers are aligned to walk in low-impact technological development, but given the predominant type of agriculture, these technologies are low-cost. The main limitation of the application of the concept of sustainability and sustainable development are the erroneous interpretation of development and its complexity, as well as its relationship with food security.
