Abstract
Achieving adequate land use and food security for the rural population in Colombia is one of the challenges of the post-conflict. Although significant progress has been made in sustainable production systems, genetic diversity and climate change mitigation, other elements such as alternatives to illicit crops and low generational turnover in agricultural activities must be strengthened.
Considering these problems, a new methodological approach is required. One of these possibilities is the Sustainable Livelihoods approach. The sustainable livelihoods framework links the assets on which local communities depend, the risks to which they are subject, the organizations and institutions that influence their daily lives and the strategies they undertake.
This paper describes the Sustainable Livelihoods approach and illustrates its application through three contrasting case studies of post-conflict recovery dynamics in Europe, Lebanon, and Mexico. Finally, it highlights the approach application to strengthening rural livelihoods, sustainability status, land succession, technological scaling-up, disaster management, and post-conflict
