Abstract

This work is the result of an experiment done by students and professors of the Animal Science program at Uniagraria, in fulfillment of the course “Research Methodologies” in the second semester of 2011. The effectiveness of organic fertilizers bokashi, compost in mottled bean plants (Phaseolus vulgaris) was evaluated and compared to 18-18-18 (Fercon®) inorganic fertilizer. Trial were done at Uniagraria location, in Bogota D.C. city. A complete random design, with four treatments and three repetitions each, was conducted in which the variable of interest was the height of the plant. The data was evaluated using Tukey’s test for comparison of means and regression analysis. The results showed that there were not any statistical differences between treatments. This suggests that plants grew at similar rates during the time of the experiments, without any influence of the fertilizers, a result that replicates previous findings in researched literature. Because organic fertilizers release nutrients slowly, it is necessary to increase the time of evaluation and the variables of interest in future experiments to obtain more conclusive results.
